The Amazing Variety of Coffee

Coffee is enjoyed all over the world, but varies greatly in how it is grown, prepared and served.

Instant coffee is still very popular in Britain but not in the US. Just add water which is slightly off the boil to a mug of water with a teaspoon of instant coffee and the job is complete. In fact instant version has improved considerably over the years and the top instant brands can give a satisfying cup.

However the real enthusiast will insist it is made from freshly ground coffee beans. Here the choice of bean and method of preparation is almost endless. The taste and quality of the bean depends largely on the latitude it was grown. Coffee is grown throughout the planet but only thrives in the region between the Tropic of Cancer in the north and the Tropic of Capricorn in the south. It is grown in Africa, The Middle East, Central America, The Far East, the Caribbean and elsewhere.

Different beans are mixed together in certain proportions to create a special blend for certain customers. Now comes the skill of the master coffee roaster to roast the beans to bring out the best taste and smell.

The way that coffee is brewed also has a say in the final taste of the hot beverage. From the humble coffee pot to the latest advanced commercial espresso system. The coffee plunger, the Turkish Ibrik, the filter drip method, the cold water technique, the espresso maker, the vacuum method and the percolator are all genuine and fun ways to make and enjoy a great tasting beverage.

So far then we know that coffee can be instant or freshly ground, will vary depending on where in the world it was grown, which type of plant was used, how the beans are blended together, how they are roasted and the technique to brew the beverage. The method of coffee preparation also varies widely. If can be enjoyed black, with milk, with cream, with milk powder, served as a latte, an espresso, a ristretto, an Americano, as a cappuccino, a flat white and many more alternatives. The options go further as it can also be enjoyed with or without sugar and even with flavourings such as amaretto, hazelnut, vanilla, cinnamon and others.

It is no surprise then to see why coffee is enjoyed the world over as it is available in such a dazzling variety of tastes that there is no excuse not to find one to everyone's liking.
