     Introduction and Early Life

Brent Harvey plays professional Australian Rules football and is currently plying his trade with the North Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was born May 14, 1978; is about 1.72 metres tall and weighs about 76kg. He is a utility player and is also very versatile, playing in the midfield and forward positions. He is nicknamed Boomer and wears jersey number 29. He is currently the captain of North Melbourne Football Club, his grand father and brother had also played for this club in time past. He was drafted into the AFL in the third round of 1995 draft where he was pick number 46.

Early Football Career

Not so much is recorded about his early playing days before he became a professional, but it is stated that he had played for Preston RSL and Northern Knights at the junior level before moving to the AFL. It was not until 1995 when he was drafted into the North Melbourne Football club to play in the AFL that his AFL history is more notable. He finally made his debut appearance in the 22nd round of 1996 in the game against Richmond. He never really had any serious impact on the team and game alike until during the 1998 season when he kicked about thirty two (32) goals for that season and also played in the grand final match which the club lost. From then onwards his career took a dramatic turn with several achievements, honours and awards with each passing season.

Professional Career Achievements

The 1999 season happened to be the period in which he was beginning to emerge and his performances were having a great impact on the team. He finished the season with a premiership and was also recognised for the profound role he played in his Victoria’s State of Origin win over South Australia. This earned him an E.J Whitten Medal. After the season, he won the Syd Baker Medal in 2003 and the Jim Stynes Medal in the International Rules series. He has won the Syd Baker Awards repeatedly for a record five times. After winning it for the first time, he got it again in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2010.

Brent was made the captain of the Australian team of the 2008 International Rules series. He also became the captain of his club in 2008 succeeding Adam Simpson. He also made history as the only player in North Melbourne Football Club that played in all the games played at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Harvey, without questions, is one of the most decorated players in his club and the AFL at large. He has won the Best and Fairest Awards for five times in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010 and the premiership in 1999, he also made it in the All Australian Team in 2000, 2005, 2007, and 2008. He was part of the International Rules series in 2000, 2001, 2003, and 2008 where he made the captain.

He has also made history already in the current 2011 season by breaking the record that was in existence on number of games played. He played his 312th game this season, surpassing any existing record before. He has become a dominant force to reckon with in the club now, having improved himself, playing skills and overall performance over the years. He currently has about 147 Brownlow votes and has played about 316 games scoring about 368 goals. He is sponsored at this club by the Davey Family.
