Andrew Swallow

     Introduction and Early Life

Andrew is a professional Australian Rules footballer that currently plays for the North Melbourne Football Club. He was born on June 2, 1987; is about 1.82 metres tall and weighs about 79kg. Andrew plays in the midfield position wearing jersey number 9 and played his early football at the junior level with East Fremantle Football Club in the West Australia Football League (WAFL). From where he was drafted to play in the Australian Football League (AFL) by the North Melbourne Kangaroos Football Club in the third round of the 2005 national AFL draft and was the number 43 pick of the draft. His younger brother David Swallow was also recently recruited into the AFL by the Gold Coast Suns Football Club.

Professional Football Career

Andrew eventually made his debut into the AFL the following year after he was drafted. He displayed exceptional skills in one of his first games that first year against Geelong Cats Football Club. The match was played in the seventeenth round of the 2006 season and he achieved a significant record of having about 25 possessions and kicking one goal at the end of that game. Andrew became very consistent as the years went by and he had improved his game greatly. He also secured a Rising Star Award nomination that year. In 2007, he had an outstanding performance with the winning goal during a round nine game; against the Melbourne Demons.

The following season of 2008 was one that seemed like the midfielder had decided to retreat a little on his performance and subsequently only played in the lower graded Victoria Football League. However Andrew Swallow eventually came back with a big bang in the 2009 season. He worked extremely well on his game such that he did exceptionally well in the other areas of the game. He was able to play and feature in every game. He has already began reaping all the labours of his hard work as he was awarded the Syd Barker Medal and also won the club’s Best and Fairest for the 2009 season and was runners up in the following season of 2010.

New Improved Performance

His performance during the 2010 season has earned him a lot of reviews from analysts, speculators and even bookmakers. He is said to have greatly improved tremendously over the years especially in the last season, and has developed and mastered new skills. One serious advantage he has earned is his ability or skill which he has developed to move forward even as a midfielder and kick goals. This is a great advantage for him because most coaches usually seek midfielders that will not only support the attack but also overlap forward most times. In addition to all of these, he has also improved tremendously his ball possessions and ball stoppage skills.

Andrew has played a total of ninety four (94) games kicking about fifty four (54) goals in his professional career at North Melbourne Football Club so far. He still has very great prospects and has not even reached his peak yet. His performances have been improving tremendously with each passing season and sometimes with each passing match. His value right now in the transfer market is not what it used to be the previous season, and he has a lot of attributes that will make many other clubs interested in hiring him when his obligation at North Melbourne comes to an end.
