Afrobeats Global Sensation

     When it comes to music, Africa is known for give its music a rich cultural zing and Afrobeat music is a perfect example of this. This music genre was fathered by the Nigerian controversial musical genius Fela Kuti. Today, music stars from Nigerian have adopted and personalized Afro beat music to give it a different life line. Artists like Wizkid, D’Banj, the sensational twins P-Square, and new cats in the industry like Iyanya have given this Nigerian Music style an international prominence.
Granted that music is about genres, and these are vast, some of the best musical masterpieces in history and today have been as a result of fusing two or more musical genres. Africa has graced the rest of the world with Afro beats- a musical style that fuses other genres that may not necessarily be big hits in Africa. The musical form incorporates beats that have a touch of jazz, funk, highlife, and borrowing from traditional Nigerian music forms like Yoruba music percussions.

Well that is just an overview about this new music sensation trending in USA and UK. The key focus is on what this music presents, and why it bears such an overwhelming presence and following not only from its native home residents but also by big names in the music industry in Europe and America. With the emergence of Afrobeats UK, a new trend in the European music scene where the artists are doing collabos with Nigerian music starts or simply adopting a touch of the Afro beat into their music, you can feel the great influence afrobeats is having in the music industry today.
When you make it big people want to associate with you, especially if you cause ripples across the board. P-Square have rubbed shoulders with big names in the American music scene; names like Rick Ross and Akon making hot singles. With Afrobeat music tracing its roots to Nigeria, it becomes easier to see why the top names in this country are finding new musical wings in what they could have once called uncharted grounds.

MTV has over the last decade given a huge focus on African music. It has hosted talent search shows across Africa giving new aspiring musicians the chance to bring their dreams of becoming musical stars into life. A good example would be Iyanya who is a rising Afrobeat music star whose fame started when he won the MTV project Fame show back in 2008. Since then, he has released big hits that have warmed the hearts of many in African, America, and Europe. Iyanya has joined the big music leagues of Afro beats hit makers like Flavor, Seyi Shay, Banky W, Yemi Alade, P-Square, May D, Tiwa Savage, D’Banj amongst other musical stars from Nigeria.

As Afro beats trends, it can now be felt, heard and is being incorporated in rock music, jazz concerts, RnB hits, and other music genres. Many of these artists are sampling or incorporating Afrobeats by collaborating with the new stars of the music genres. You probably won’t see the American and European artists dress in African attire just to show their love for African music genre, but the adoration they have to this African musical style is warming up.

Before, it would have been hard to see Afrobeat videos being featured on musical shows. However, today, most afrobeats hits and videos are receiving an overwhelming airplay on most musical shows. Some afrobeats hits have even won international awards and the musical videos portray the best of Africa’s musical cultures.
