A Successful Path to Internet Reputation Stardom!

There are a lot of important elements that go into building a good business website and establishing a good online reputation. With so much competition on the internet for almost every market and industry, trustworthiness has become even more influential – catching some companies off guard. When it becomes necessary to create and increase a good reputation – or handle damage control for an existing web-based company, the key to success is understanding the significance of online reputation and exactly what can affect it.

Online Reputation Value

When a company does business via the internet, it is vital that customers be able to trust a company and believe that it is honest with good service and products. Reputation is an important way to actually demonstrate trust, especially with an internet-based business. With a physical business location, customers can actually enter a store and personally inspect products and decide whether or not to make a purchase with that company. In the online shopping world, references from existing customers and anyone who has had dealings with that company have become a primary voice that speaks to the trustworthiness of the company.

  • Reputation - whether good or bad - is one of the first things encountered online when researching products or companies, ensuring that the right business has been selected for the desired product or service. It is a fast look that can generate first and lasting impressions, so it is important to make that impression a positive one.

Online Reputation Control Methods

There are two basic methods that can help to control a business reputation on the internet: monitoring and managing:

  • Monitoring - Just as it insinuates, monitoring is checking to see what others are saying about a business. This can be done in many different ways such as to Google on the name, looking for reviews on popular sites like Yelp!, Google Places, Angie’s List, and many others, which can be facilitated by setting alerts to be notified whenever the business name is mentioned online. Monitoring can also be done by asking customers for feedback that can help point out any unknown issues that customers may be experiencing.

  • Managing - Managing a reputation is what happens with information that surfaces through regular monitoring and can include solving customer problems, correcting wrong published information; and challenging published website reviews that do not originate from actual customers. The second part is more marketing than management involving the correct use of social medical to keep a constant stream of positive internet information flowing to increase positive mentions and decrease negative references. Websites must be frequently updated with quality content; offer valid assistance to all users; have press releases sent to various publicity outlets; and be a positive force to be sees, read, and shared with others.

Correct Responses

When damage control needs to happen, how it is handled can make or break a business reputation. Always remember the different ways that information spreads socially and what would happen if a business appeared unaware or uncaring. Face concerns openly and offer corrections to help the situation for the offended party – and be sure online viewers can read about a company’s effective and helpful response.

It does take some time to build a good company reputation - or correct a damaged one. By using the above steps, it can be done. Always keep quality high so that more and more positive mentions are posted online in addition to company postings. More positive business recognition will help to bury any negative comments under a long list of positives. All of this can indeed create a successful path to internet reputation stardom!
